ALAN JONES

Born and raised in Liverpool my interest in photography began in 1970s. By the mid 80s  much of my working day as a probation officer was spent photographing community projects in Liverpool 8. I also worked with the Labour Party photographing demonstrations of which there were many at that time. I worked mainly in black and white which I processed and printed myself at home. If I needed to print colour I went to the Open Eye which was then situated where today’s Queens Square is to be found. By 1985 I was thinking about turning professional but all my gear was stolen along with my car which meant I remained in social work until I retired in 2012. Since then I have worked for AXA doing behind the scenes photography at Anfield and the Academy. Prior to Covid I spent 12 months photographing ballroom dancing at Liverpool Town Hall and I am just finishing off a project ‘Faces of Dementia’ at Sedgemoor Dementia Hub, a day centre in Liverpool.  This will be exhibited at the Palm House in Sefton Park 13-16th May 2024.
